As parents bring their children to baptism, they are entrusted to help their child grow in the Christian faith and promise: “… to live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”
Confirmation, or the Affirmation of Baptism, is the time when confirmands declare for themselves that they will live out the promises made for them by their parents and sponsors in their baptism. This process of preparation takes many forms, including classes (6th - 8th grades) and increased involvement in the life of their faith community.
About Confirmation at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (OSLC)
OSLC confirmation is open to all 6th-8th grade students; all students need to register for classes each year. Confirmation meets for an hour either before worship or following worship on Wednesdays, September-May:
- Session 1 - 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- Session 2 - 7:15-8:15 p.m.
Education hour begins with a high-energy large group time, and is followed by grade-level instruction, and small-group discussion time. Students and families are encouraged to attend the 6:30 p.m. IGNITE worship service together.
Does your family prefer worshipping on Sunday mornings? You are welcome to attend any of the Sunday morning worship services. All confirmation students and parents/guardians are expected to attend worship together no matter what education hour they attend.
