Confirmation for Grades 6-8
As parents bring their children to baptism, they are entrusted to help their child grow in the Christian faith and promise: “… to live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.”
Confirmation, or the Affirmation of Baptism, is the time when confirmands declare for themselves that they will live out the promises made for them by their parents and sponsors in their baptism. This process of preparation takes many forms, including classes (6th – 8th grades) and increased involvement in the life of their faith community.
OSLC confirmation is open to all 6th-8th grade students; all students need to register for classes each year. Confirmation meets 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Half of our confirmation youth and adult guides will start in large group while the other half start in small groups. Then they will rotate to the other. They will end with a time of worship all together. This provides longer learning times, longer small group times, greater community building and smaller group numbers. Worship will include music, a brief message and communion.
